The Configuration Manager must ensure that proposed changes are systematically considered to minimize adverse effects.
It is verified that changes are carried out as prescribed and that documentation of items and systems reflects their
true configuration. A change can be initiated in the existing technology environment as a result of:
-
Addition of a new service
-
Modification to an existing service
-
Initiated by Change Management process.
These changes result in modifications to the technology configuration items and technology assets. It is the
responsibility of the Configuration Manager to ensure these changes are controlled and the baselines are maintained.
The technology configuration items and assets impacted by the change must be identified. While changes are being
carried out on these impacted technology configuration items, the Configuration Manager must ensure the changes are
controlled and all defined processes are followed. The new baselines must be established after appropriate reviews. The
configuration management database(CMDB) must be updated to reflect the modified technology configuration items and
relationships between them. If necessary, the Technology Asset And Configuration Management Plan may need to be
updated, post changes.
